Purpose, Impact, & The Stories That Define Us

On November 18, 1973, during my first year at Mercer Law, we had a visit from then-President Richard Nixon, who was in the midst of “Operation Candor.” Also present was then-Governor Jimmy Carter. It was the centennial of the Law School and the purpose of the visit was to announce the naming of an aircraft carrier after congressman Carl Vinson (Mercer Law, 1902), who was also present. For a few days the law school was the focus of national print and television media. Quite a first year!
