Class of 1991

I remember two main things from Professor Dick Creswell’s first year torts class. First: early in the year, while discussing a case, one of my classmates commented. “Well, he (the tortfeasor) had good intentions.” Professor Creswell’s response: “Mr. ______, do you know what they say about the road to hell?” It was very funny, but it indeed taught us something about the nature of a tort, and I have always remembered it, even though I haven’t practiced in that area for over 20 years. Second, in the last class of our first year, after calling us Mr. _____ or Ms. _____ all year, Professor Creswell began to call us all by our first names. An insignificant thing, perhaps, but I think it made us all feel like we were family, and that we had made it.
