Summer Externship

Summer Externship

Credit Hours: 2-3 hours
S/U Course
Offered: Summer
Open to: 2L and 3L

Summer externship is offered, as the name suggests, only in summer. Its substance is similar to Externship I and II in that students gain practical experience in outside offices while completing coursework designed to guide their reflection, build skills, and promote a deeper educational experience. Students must identify their own placements and work for a

  1. governmental entity (including judges, prosecutors, or public defender offices)
  2. non-profit office
  3. in a private form on their strictly pro-bono or government cases or
  4. in an office of general counsel.

Course meetings in Summer Externship are 100% online and mostly asynchronous. Financial aid is available upon application and approval for students taking 3 credit hours.

See Course Catalog for official description.

The summer externship at Mercer Law is rewarding for more than just class credit and the potential stipends. It is a way to reflect on what you are doing during the summer on a deeper level. It is something that was beneficial in countless ways and I had an amazing professor too.
