Corporate Counsel Externship II

Corporate Counsel Externship II

Credit Hours: 3-12 hours
S/U Course
Offered: Fall and Spring
Open to: 2L and 3L

Corporate Counsel Externship II gives students who have already taken Corporate Counsel Externship I the opportunity to continue developing critical practice skills through another externship with the same company or a different company or nonprofit organization. The requirements of Externship II are similar to Externship II except that the class meets for one hour every other week instead of two hours each week. The class sessions focus primarily on the students’ externship experiences but also incorporate discussion of assigned readings. Students are encouraged to attend Externship I classes on topics not covered during their Externship I course. Students also have a weekly journal requirement.

Students can earn 2 credits (100 hours of fieldwork or 7-8 per week) or 3 credits (140 hours or 10-11 hours per week). 3Ls with a cumulative GPA of at least 83.00 can earn up to 12 credits. Students apply for individual externships and must secure an eligible externship to be admitted to the course. Externships are posted each semester in BearBoard with an application deadline in early October for spring externships and early March for fall externships.

See Course Catalog for official description.

The Corporate Counsel Externship program afforded me a wonderful experience that I will cherish forever. Throughout my externship, not only was I exposed to privacy, intellectual property, and procurement/contract matters - but I developed strong relationships with amazing people who are also amazing lawyers.
