Civics Field Placement I/II
Credit Hours: Fall: 2 hours, Spring 3-4 hours
Graded Course
Offered: Fall and Spring, both semesters required
Open to: 2L and 3L
The newest experiential course is the innovative Civics Field Placement, a year-long course. The fall semester course is a seminar in constitutional law culminating in a written paper that fulfills other program requirements at the law school along with instruction on how to teach and mentor high school students in general civics instruction. The focus on students’ work in the spring semester occurs within the local public school system. Working in teaching pairs, law students help with teaching civics classes in the Bibb County School District and also meet for classroom discussions of their class planning and overall learning experiences.
