Graded Course
Semester Offered: Spring

Mercer Law’s Consumer Bankruptcy Externship Program provides students with an opportunity to assist members in our community who need a financial fresh start but cannot afford an attorney to assist them with the filing of their bankruptcy case. Students work under the supervision of local mentor attorneys and Professor Ishaq Kundawala, Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute and W. Homer Drake Jr. Endowed Chair in Bankruptcy Law, to assist the clients from start to finish in their chapter 7 bankruptcy cases.
The Consumer Bankruptcy Externship Program is a one-semester course offered in the Spring semester with 4 total credits (2 numerically graded classroom credits and 2 pass/fail non-graded credits for work representing clients). The course satisfies 4 out of the 6 required credits for experiential learning.
The course is open to 3Ls who have successfully completed Bankruptcy, Law of Lawyering, and Evidence.
