Yes, you may receive pay through your organization as well as class credit for Externships. You may not receive pay for clinical courses.

Third year students with a GPA of 83 or higher may apply to register for up to 12 credit hours in some courses. The course descriptions for Corporate Counsel Externship I/ II, Externship I/ II, and the Public Defender Externship describe the calculus for field hours worked and credit hours earned.

This depends. The Director of Experiential Education is Professor Sarah Gerwig, and she is your go-to person for general questions. She also teaches the Public Defender Clinic, Externship I/II, and Summer Externship. But if you have questions about the other experiences, below is a list of who you should talk to regarding each course.

The office of Career Services can help with finding externship opportunities in partnering law offices.

This depends on the class. Some clinics or externships do have prerequisites, but these will be listed on each course’s description page on the registrar’s website. Each course description is also already linked under each clinic or externship page.

There are only stipends during the summer. If you take Summer Externship and you are working in a public office, you can apply for a stipend.

If you have found a placement, you then need to apply to get into the course through the application so that your placement can be approved.
