Mercer Law School will hold a panel discussion, titled “Social Justice and the Quest for Equitable Public Policy” Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 3:30 p.m. in the Moot Courtroom of the Law School. The discussion is sponsored by the Black Law Students Association to celebrate black history month. The program will discuss the state of civil rights and social justice in American society and is free and open to the public.
Speakers include Mercer Law Alumnus Virgil Adams, Adams Jordan & Treadwell, P.C.; Stephen Chu, attorney, Equal Justice Initiative; Isaiah Hugley, City Manager of Columbus, and Jerry Boykin, Law Office of Jerry Boykin and the first African American graduate of Mercer Law in 1972. They will specifically address issues regarding economic empowerment, education, and the role of the modern day lawyer. The mission of the program is to promote progressive intellectual thought within the law school and with the community at-large.
Douglas Kysar, deputy dean and Joseph M. Field ’55 professor of law at Yale Law School, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at Mercer Law School’s 2012 Law Day luncheon on March 16. His presentation is entitled “Limited Government in an Era of Unlimited Harm: A Case Study of Climate Change Litigation."
The luncheon starts at 12:30 p.m. and will be held in the University Center on Mercer University’s main campus. Cost is $20 for attendees and $10 for Mercer students, faculty and staff. For more information please contact Leslie Cadle.
