A Note from the Dean
February 2024
While the chilly January temperatures may not signal the start of spring, we are already into the swing of the spring semester. The spring semester marks the upcoming conclusion of some journeys and the beginning of new journeys.
The third-year students are counting down the days to commencement. The second-year students are recognizing that they are over halfway done with their legal studies. And first-year students are breathing sighs of relief that they now know the routine of law school.
We are looking forward to new courses and experiences that prepare students for practice. This spring, the law school is offering a new course titled “Agricultural Law Seminar.” Students will explore the intersection of agriculture, food production, and the law. The course draws from a variety of areas of the law, including administrative law, environmental law, intellectual property, international trade, and biotechnology. We are also offering for the first time a course titled “Securities Regulation: Issues” where students are introduced to the laws and regulations governing the offering and sale of securities. We are continuing to expand our externships and field placements. In its second semester, the Civics Field Placement has law students supporting high school civics education.
Each spring offers the opportunity for Mercer Law School alumni to gather. I hope you will join us at the annual Alumni Dinner to reflect on your law school journeys and share your recent accomplishments.
