Anne Johnson Retires from Mercer Law After 22 Years

We celebrate Anne Johnson, assistant director of academic success and adjunct professor, who retired from Mercer Law School on June 30th after 22 years of dedicated service. She has joined the faculty at the University of Baltimore School of Law as a professor of practice.

Since 2004 Johnson has been a beloved educator and mentor—teaching legal research, legal process, and intro to law, while serving in the Mercer Law Academic Success Program and working with advanced writing groups. Her work has included courses, workshops, one-on-one counseling, and academic mentoring to help all members of the Mercer Law community master study techniques, time management, course outlining, exam strategies, and bar preparation.

A native of Garden City, New York, Johnson earned her bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in computer science from Villanova University and her J.D. from Villanova School of Law. Her love of law began on the high-school speech and debate team, where a passion for public speaking and extemporaneous argument pointed her toward a legal career. What began as a single semester teaching advanced legal research in 2004 grew into a vocation shaped by a deep commitment to students and to hands-on legal pedagogy.

Johnson says the most satisfying part of her work has been watching students succeed—often returning to share how research and writing skills learned in her classes helped them on exams or in practice. She hopes her students leave Mercer confident that “with the research and writing skills they learn, they can do anything they set their mind to.”
