Dean's Message April 2025

Headshot of Dean Karen Sneddon

Spring is in the air in Macon, Georgia. April marks the last month of the 2024-2025 academic year instruction at the law school. Following the last class meetings on April 23, final exams, commencement, summer employment, and bar study follow for the students and the graduates.

The spring semester is always a busy one, and this spring semester has been no exception. Students are focused on classroom, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities and many continue to participate and excel in advocacy competitions. This spring, each competition team has advanced in every competition in which they have participated. Students have supported the community by participating in the Fourteenth Annual Legal Food Frenzy. Mercer Law students raised more than $18,000 for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, and Mercer Law won the law school division for the tenth time.

A key event of the spring semester for third-year students is the unveiling of the class composite. The Class of 2025 has taken their place on a wall at Mercer Law School. Members of the class initially walked the hallways three years ago as prospective students looking at the composites as sources of inspiration. Now, they will serve as an inspiration for others. As part of the class composite reveal, the name of the commencement speaker is shared. We are delighted that Vernon Strickland, ’06, will be the commencement speaker for the Class of 2025. We look forward to his words of wisdom and encouragement as the third-year students continue their countdown to commencement.

At all times, our students seek to follow the examples of Mercer Lawyers. We appreciate those alumni who serve as adjuncts, volunteer to be panelists, and serve as mentors for our students. We also appreciate those who are leaders in the community. With each community engagement and client representation, you show what it means to be a Mercer Lawyer.

The spring semester is a time when we learn more about the great work of alumni. In March, more than 300 Mercer Lawyers and their guests gathered in celebration and fellowship at the Annual Alumni Dinner in Atlanta. Congratulations again to our three terrific award recipients! The evening was filled with cheerful connections and reminiscences about completed law school days. Be on the lookout for the save the date for the 2026 Law School Alumni Dinner!

Spring may be in the air, but students are rushing to the end of the semester.

As students finish outlines and complete practice exams, they are excited to put into practice this summer what they have learned. Indeed, faculty and staff are already preparing for fall. The law school is always abuzz with activity!
