Dean's Message March 2026
Spring is a season when the hard work of the past results in growth in the present. As green leaves unfurl and shoots sprout outside, the law school is buzzing with activity. Students are in the library study rooms discussing old exam questions, composing outlines, and reviewing flashcards. Faculty are grading midterms and submitting articles for publication consideration. Staff are balancing exit counseling for third-year law students and tours for admitted students.
The work of the law school may be visible to everyone or may, like the seeds germinating in the soil, not be visible until the hard work culminates in an event. That event may be earning a place on the Dean’s List, earning a national championship (of which Mercer Law teams have earned three this academic year!), or receiving an award (such as Mercer Law BLSA earning chapter of the year for the sixth year in a row!).
This newsletter spotlights Steve Lindsey of the Registrar’s Office, an office which supports a range of activities from registration to commencement. As Assistant Registrar, Steve Lindsey prepares rosters, assigns anonymous grading numbers, prepares degree audits, completes degree certifications, and so much more that allows students and graduates to grow—and to graduate!
This newsletter also showcases three law students, each in a different year of law school. They reflect upon their journeys, reveal in the present successes, and share what lies ahead for them.
The alumni spotlights are especially relevant for spring and share that hard work sets the foundation for future joy, which may come in unexpected areas.
We had the opportunity to gather Mercer Lawyers at our Annual Alumni Dinner. You can check out the photographs from the wonderful night. Be on the look out for the save-the-date for the 2027 Alumni Dinner.
