Phi Delta Phi Raises $2,000 for Susan G. Komen of Central Georgia

On March 29, 2012, Phi Delta Phi hosted the annual Rehberg Golf Tournament at Healy Point Country Club and raised $2,000 for Susan G. Komen of Central Georgia. Almost 60 players, including 55 Mercer Law students, gathered at Healy Point to claim the title of Rehberg champions. Barton Goode, Greg Johnson, Will Hammill and Stephen Jenkins won first place.

Jim Petro, Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, to Deliver 2012 Commencement Keynote Address

Jim Petro, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, will deliver the keynote address at the 2012 Commencement ceremony of Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law on Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. in the University Center.
Jim Petro was appointed chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents in March 2011. Chancellor Petro leads the University System of Ohio, which is one of the largest comprehensive systems of public higher education in the nation.

 

Mercer Places Second in the John J. Gibbons National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition

Mercer’s team of second year students Ashley Akins, Jacquelyn Smith, and Tom Allmond captured second place in the John J. Gibbons National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition. The competition was hosted by Seton Hall Law School in Newark, New Jersey on March 23-24. The team also won second place for best petitioner’s brief. Professor Jim Fleissner and student Michael George coached the team. 

 

Client Counseling Team Places Seventh in the Nation

In February 2012 Mercer's ABA Client Counseling team of third year students Craig Cooper and Emilie Leech finished second in the 11th Circuit region of the ABA Law Student Division Client Counseling Competition. The competition was hosted at Mercer Law School and included 24 competitors from law schools around the region. At the national finals in March, which Cooper and Leech had been specially invited by the ABA because of their noteworthy regional performances both this year and last, they finished seventh in the nation. 

2012 Hugh Lawson Moot Court Competition

HughLawsonCompFirst year Mercer law student Christiane Cochran won the Hugh Lawson Moot Court competition held on Law Day, March 16, 2012. The King & Spalding Cup and $500 are awarded to a first-year student who most effectively argues before a panel of distinguished judges. Coming in a close second place was 1L Megan Allen.
