Maria Odom, ’97, appointed Department of Homeland Security CIS Ombudsman

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced on Sep. 14, the appointment of Maria Odom, ’97, as Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) Ombudsman. Starting Monday, Sep. 24, Odom will head the Department of Homeland Security’s Ombudsman’s Office and recommend methods for the CIS to improve immigration services. Odom says she is “eager and ready to serve in this role and very honored to represent Mercer University School of Law.”

Prior to this appointment, Odom served as the Executive Director of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. Her career also includes former positions in the U.S. Department of Justice and the practice of immigration law. She is a native of Puerto Rico.
