AWLS Auction Raises Over $12,000 for Charity

On Thursday, March 7, 2013 the Association of Women Law Students hosted the 15th Annual Charity Auction and Ball at the Armory Ballroom in downtown Macon. They raised over $12,000 to benefit two local charities – Jay’s Hope and The Methodist Home for Children. In the past three years, they have raised over $50,000 to support local charities.
 

 

Phi Alpha Delta Raises $4,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Mercer Law’s Phi Alpha Delta raised $4,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia through their annual talent show and silent auction in January 2013. The talent show included performances by current students, Dean Gary Simson and the faculty band Sue ‘n the Bastards. Additionally, the silent auction included items such as gift certificates and packages from local businesses, bar prep courses, trips and more. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization that matches adult mentors with students in order to help the students reach their full potential. Phi Alpha Delta is a professional law fraternity that serves the students, law profession, school, and community.

Darl H. Champion, ’07, Promoted to Partner

Darl H. Champion, ’07, became a partner at Warshauer Law Group, where he had been an associate since 2010. His practice focuses on representing plaintiffs in catastrophic injury and death cases. Champion has been recognized by the Georgia Super Lawyers magazine as a Rising Star in the area of personal plaintiff litigation in each of the past two years.

Warshauer Law Group serves clients who have been harmed as a result of car and truck wrecks, industrial accidents, motorcycle crashes, defective products, medical malpractice, police brutality, railroad injuries, workplace accidents and wrongful death.
 

Karen S. Kurtz, ’04, Promoted to Shareholder

Karen S. Kurtz, ’04, was named an Income Shareholder at firm Chamberlain Hrdlicka’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Houston, Texas. Her practice focuses on income, estate and gift tax planning, as well as the formation and restructuring of captive insurance companies and other business entities. She also provides support for tax and probate litigation efforts.

Frederick Lambert Hooper III, ‘88, Appointed to Special Advisory Committee

Frederick Lambert Hooper III, ‘88, was appointed by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal to the Special Advisory Commission on Mandated Health Insurance Benefits. Under state law, the committee will evaluate the social and financial impacts of current and proposed mandated benefits, and advise the governor and General Assembly.

Hooper is chief counsel for Shaw Industries Group, Inc. where he directs the legal and corporate compliance departments. He is also the chair of the Dalton/Whitfield County Archway Partnership with the University System of Georgia.
