Papers must be a minimum of twenty pages and a maximum of thirty pages (double space, twelve-point font, and one-inch margins) and must be postmarked or e-mailed by January 15, 2010. Two winning papers will be selected by the Officeres of the Federal Bar Association Section on Taxation.
The Author of the first place paper will recieve:
A $2,000 cash prize and a trip to the FBA's Annual Tax Law Conference in Washington DC, on March 5, 2010
The Author of the second place paper will recieve:
A $1,000 cash prize and a commemorative plaque and complimentary one year membership in the federal bar association on taxation.

| NYLS Real Estate Law Writing Competition |
Tge Center for Real Estate Studies and Real Estate LL.M. Program at New York Law School present the first Annual NYLS Real Estate Law Writing Competition.
Designed to encourage scholaship on all aspects of real estate and land use law, uncluding transactional practice, financing, housing and mortgage law, zoning, condominiums, sustainable development and building, international and comparative law, ethical issues, and public policy. All submissions must be fully cited in Bluebook format.
Deadline April 1, 2010
Prizes: $1,000 first prize and $500 honorable mention.

The Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest is a $5,000 cash award given to the author of the winning essay. The 2010 topic is Can Coal Be Clean? Litigation Remedies for Coal Contamination from Minin to Combustion Sequestration. Any student currently enrolled in an accredited American Law School may submit a legal essay for the competition. Essays can only be written during the academic year covered by the competeion and may not be prepared as part of paid legal work outside of law school.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE COLLEGE LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT LAWYERS WRITING COMPETITION FOR LAW STUDENTS 2009-2010
TOPIC: The scope of permissible topics is broad i.e. any aspect of domestic public or private labor or employment law. Students are encouraged to present a:
a. Public policy issue,
b. Practical implications of a leading case or doctrine,
c. Comment on a statute or the need for a statutory modification,
d. Comment on a common law doctrine.
PRIZES: First prize- $1,500.00
Second prize- $1,000.00
Third prize- $500.00
In addition to a monetary award, the winner will have his/her article distributed to all Fellows with a future issue of the College newsletter and posted on the College’s website. The ABA Journal of Labor & Employment Law (formerly The Labor Lawyer) has indicated a strong interest in printing the winning entry, if it meets their publication standards, which include relevance and utility to the practicing Bar. Winners will also be invited guest at the Annual Induction Dinner of the College where they will be recognized and honored during the evening program.
COMPETITION RULES
1. Articles must be original from the applicant. Each student entrant is limited to one entry; multiple entries by the same person are expressly prohibited. In addition, they must not presently be under consideration for any other publication or written as part of paid employment.
2. All articles are to be submitted in the following format:
a. Typewritten, in Word format, with computer disk attached, or submitted by email to info@laborandemploymentcollege.org (please reference “Writing Competition” in the subject line;
b. Double spaced;
c. On 8 ½ inch by 11 inch paper, 1 inch margins;
d. Entries should be between 10 to 20 pages in length (inclusive of endnotes);
e. Citations are to conform to “A Uniform System of Citation” (The Blue Book).
3. All articles must be emailed no later than 5:00 pm (pdst) on May 14, 2010 or post marked no later than May 1, 2010. Articles sent after that date will not be considered. Please send all submissions to: Susan Wan, Executive Director, The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, 1050 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20036-5306.
4. If published by the College, the articles become the property of the College. No submitted article may be published elsewhere until after announcement of the winners of this competition.
5. Include a title page with your entry stating your name, mailing address, and phone number (both school and permanent), name of school and year of graduation.
6. Applicant must currently be enrolled in an accredited law school at the time of the submission.
SELECTION CRITERIA AND STANDARDS
Papers will be evaluated and judged on the following standards: topic, analysis; grammar, spelling, usage & syntax; clarity and overall structure; and the overall appearance of the paper. |

| Diversity Scholars Award-$3,000 for a 2L-11/16/09 |
Constangy, Brooks & Smith will grant a Diversity Scholars Award of $3,000 to a deserving second-year student attending an accredited law school in the Southern region. Selection criteria will include the applicant's (1) academic achievement, (2) commitment to diversity in the community, school or work environment, and (3) personal achievement in overcoming challenges to reach goals. Awards are not limited to students of a particular gender, racial or ethnic background.
Applications and all supporting materials must be received no later than Monday, November 16, 2009.

Louis Jackson National Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law
Open to all students who have completed or are currently taking courses in employment or labor law. Papers discussing topics relating to the law governing the workplace are due Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
Format: Must be suitable for publication in a law review. Citations must conform to current Bluebook style. Papers must be printed on 8 1/2 by 11 inch white paper and must not exceed 35 pages in length including footnotes, set in 12 point TImes Roman font with double spacing and one inch margins.
Awards : Top award of $3,000 and then second and third will be awarded $1,000. Also top three will be published on the Institute for Law and the Workplace website.

| American Indian Law Review Writing Competition |
Topics: Paper will be accepted on any issue concerning American Indian Law
Eligibility: Competition is open to students at accredited law schools in the United States and Canada who are enrolled as of the competition deadline of Feb 1, 2010.
Awards: First place- $1,000 and publication of paper in the American Indian Law Review, an official periodical of the Univeristy of Oklahoma College of Law with international districution. Second place-$500, third place- $250.
Deadline: Electronic entries must be recieved no later than six pm eastern time on Feb 1 2010. Hardcopy entries must be postmarked no later than that date.
Standards: Papers will be judged on the basis or originality and timliness of topic, knowledge and use of applicable legal principles, prpper and articulate analysis of the issues, use of authorities and extent of research, logic and reasoning in analysis, ingenuity and ability to argue by analogy, clarity and organization, correctness of format and citations, grammer and writing style, and strength and logic of conclusions.
Form: Minimum of 20 pages and max of 50 excluding footnotes.All citations should conform to the Uniform System of Citation.

| Securities Law Writing Competition 2009 |
ASECA'S annual writing competition awards prizes for outstanding papers in the field of securitites law. Qualifying papers may address any subject in the field of securities law. Both undergraduate and graduate law students at accredited law schools in the U.S. are eligible to participate.
Three cash prizes will be awarded at ASECA's annual dinner on Friday, Februrary 5, 2010 in Washington , DC: $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, and $2,000 for third place. Award winners will be invited to dinner.
First place winner will be reimbursed up to $1,000 in travel and lodging expenses.
Two copies of each submission should be sent to ASECA, P.O. Box 5767, Washington, DC 20016. Must be recieved no later than November 13th, 2009.

| American College of Legal Medicine Contest |
This year again we are offering 4 legal medicine writing competitions for students. The deadline for submission to all competitions is January 11, 2010.
The competetions include:
The Letourneau Award - for law students
The Hirsh Award - for Dentistry, Podiatry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Science, Health Care Administration, or Public Health Students
The Schwartz Award - for medical students
The Bioethics Award - for students currently enrolled in an accredited law, medical, podiatric, nursing, dental, health science or health care administration program in the United States or Canada
All papers submitted will recieve consideration for publication in the Journal of Legal Medicine or other meical legal publications.
$1,000 awarded to first place in each category.

71st Annual Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition
1. Eligible Students:
Third-year students. In the discretion of the Dean, second-year students may also compete.
2. Subject Matter:
Any aspect of Copyright Law.
3. Determination of Awards:
Local: The prizes will be awarded to eligible students who shall, in the sole judgment of the Dean, or such other person or committee as the Dean may designate, prepare the two best papers. The Dean may, in his or her discretion, withhold the awards entirely, if in his or her opinion no worthy paper is submitted.
National: First place local winners will be eligible to participate. The entries wil be judged by a panel to be selected by, and in the sole discretion of, the Copyright Society of the USA.
4. Amounts of Awards:
Local: A first pize of $600 and a second prize of $250 at each participating law school, to be paid through the Dean, upon his or her written certification.
National: A first prize of $3,000, a second prize of $2,000, and a thrid of $1,000 may be awarded in the sole discretion of the Copyright Society of the USA and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
Winning papers must be certified by the Dean to the Society by:

| ABI Bankruptcy Writing Competition |
The Bankruptcy Litigation Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute is pleased to invite sutdents to participate in its Second Annual ABI Student Writing Competition. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded.
We invite papers on current issues regarding bankruptcy jurisdiction, bankruptcy litigation, or evidence in bankruptcy cases or proceedomgs. For clarification, the paper may address business or consumer cases and may include matters such as bankruptcy sales, plan confirmation and other topics that involve jurisdiction, litigation or evidence in the bankruptcy courts.
The Competition will take place from January 1, 2010 through March 1, 2010. Papers submitted after March 1, 2010 will not be considered.
Winners of the Competition will be announced on May 3, 2010. Winners will be presented with certificats from the ABI recognizing their achievement and the law schools will be notified so that this achievement can be noted in the students' records. In addition, the First Place winner will receive $1,000 cash, plus publication of the paper in the presigious ABI Journal, and a one year membership to the ABI. The Second Place writer will receive a cash award of $750, plus publication of the paper in the ABI Bankruptcy Litigation Committee's quartely newsletter, and a one year membership to the ABI. The Third Place winner will receive a cash award of $500, plus publication of the paper in the ABI Bankruptcy Litigation Committee's quarterly newsletter, and a one year membership to the ABI.
Papers must be 10-12 double-spaced pages. Must be written in 12 point, Times New Roman font. Papers must comply with the Guidelines for submissions to the ABI Journal found at: http://www.abiworld.org/JournalSubmission.
