SBA students helping Rebuild Macon one house at a time

SBA students helping Rebuild Macon one house at a time

In March, Mercer Law School’s Student Bar Association’s Community Service committee worked with Rebuilding Macon to help a local disabled Macon citizen rebuild his home.

The citizen, Tyrone Johnson, who is in a wheelchair, is in his early 20s and just started college. Over 20 Mercer Law students painted Johnson’s entire home.

“It was a beautiful Saturday and everyone worked hard all day to complete the project,” said SBA community service member Katherine Willett. “Tyrone was very thankful for the Mercer Law School students who came out to help him.”

The SBA does a Rebuilding Macon project once every semester. Rebuilding Macon is a program that organizes groups to rebuild the homes of local disabled and elderly citizens. The SBA works with a Rebuilding Macon coordinator who assigns the organization a house to help rebuild. The program is rewarding for both the beneficiaries and the students who get out and make a positive impact in the community, Willett said.

“Rebuilding Macon is a great opportunity for Mercer Law students to get together and have fun outside of a legal environment while at the same time helping members of the Macon community,” Willett added.
