State appeals court judge to deliver commencement address at Mercer Law School

State appeals court judge to deliver commencement address at Mercer Law School
 
MACON, Ga. – Presiding Judge Edward H. Johnson of the Court of Appeals of Georgia is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on May 16 for the 2009 commencement exercises at the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law.
 
More than 150 law students are scheduled to be hooded and receive the Juris Doctor degree from Mercer Law School. The commencement ceremony begins at 6 p.m. and will be held at the University Center on the campus of Mercer University.
 
“Commencement is an event that we all cherish,” said Mercer Law School Dean Daisy Hurst Floyd. “We congratulate our students for reaching this milestone, and we welcome their family and friends in celebration of their achievements.”
 
Before being sworn in as the 59th judge of the state Court of Appeals on Feb. 28, 1992, Judge Johnson served as a judge on the Superior Court, Atlanta Judicial Circuit, and as a judge of the State Court of Fulton County. Judge Johnson has also served as an adjunct professor at Mercer and Emory law schools, an instructor for the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education, and on the faculty of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
 
Judge Johnson received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history from Georgia State University, a Juris Doctor degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law and an LL.M. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
