M. Yvette Miller, CLA ’77 LAW ’80, Receives 2013 Leah Ward Sears Award for Distinction in the Profession from Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys

The Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA) recently announced that Judge M. Yvette Miller, CLA ’77 and LAW ’80, is the 2013 winner of its Leah Ward Sears Award for Distinction in the Profession. Judge Miller was appointed to the Georgia Court of Appeals in 1999, when she became the first black woman on the court. In 2009, she was unanimously selected by her fellow judges to serve as Chief Judge. She is currently serving her third term on the court as a presiding judge.
 

Brandon Peak, ’04, Elected to 2013-2014 Georgia Trial Lawyers Association Executive Committee

Brandon Peak, ’04, was elected by members of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association to serve on the 2013-2014 Executive Committee as an American Association of Justice State Delegate.

Peak is a partner at Butler, Wooten & Fryhofer, LLP. He handles product liability, personal injury, whistleblower, trucking and class action cases in state and federal courts throughout the nation. Additionally, he has served as President of the Chattahoochee Bar Association and Columbus Trial Lawyer's Association and is currently serving as Treasurer of the Columbus Bar Association.
 

Darryl W. Lunon, II, ’08, Appointed to Office of General Counsel for U.S. Navy

Darryl W. Lunon, II, ’08, recently joined the U.S. Department of the Navy’s Office of General Counsel (OGC). OGC attorneys assist the General Counsel in providing legal services to the Secretary of the Navy, staff and personnel throughout the Navy and Marine Corps. Lunon provides counsel to the Mid-Atlantic Naval Facilities Engineering Command on a full range of installation issues, concentrating on construction service acquisitions, architecture/engineering and base operations services, fiscal law, facilities maintenance, utility issues, real estate and public-private ventures.

Betsy Griswold, ’83, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Atlanta Business Chronicle and the Association of Corporate Counsel, Georgia Chapter’s 2013 Corporate Counsel Awards

Betsy Griswold, ’83, is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Atlanta Business Chronicle and the Association of Corporate Counsel, Georgia Chapter’s 2013 Corporate Counsel Awards. Griswold is currently an in-house attorney for United Parcel Services Inc. and has practiced law in Atlanta for almost 30 years. Prior to UPS, she was the in-house counsel at Heidelberg USA and served as an attorney with GMAC Commercial Mortgage and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Additionally, she is actively involved in the Association of Corporate Counsel, Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, Atlanta Bar Foundation, State Bar of Georgia, Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, and Buckhead Church.

Kellye C. Moore, ’93, Featured in the American Bar Association Journal

Kellye Moore,’93, appeared in the June 2013 issue of ABA Journal as part of a feature story on six female law firm leaders at the top of their games. Moore has more than 20 years experience as a civil litigator and is the managing partner of Walker Hulbert Gray & Moore in Perry, Ga. “She’s been one of the driving forces in the law firm to keep us on top of the dramatic changes the whole law practice has seen in the last 10 to 15 years,” says firm founder Lawrence C. Walker Jr.
