Laptop Program

The Law School provides a laptop program to better serve our students' technical support needs. With standardized hardware and software configurations, the technology staff is able to quickly diagnose and solve technical problems, provide customized technology training for our students, and ensure that students wishing to take exams on computer have the ability to do so. Additionally, by using standardized software and hardware, our technology staff is able to protect against potential damage caused by hackers and virus attacks. We also provide our students with an identical "loaner" laptop when a laptop needs repair, ensuring that our students will always have a laptop available.

Students have the option to opt out of the laptop program by providing their own laptop. The student’s laptop must meet or exceed certain specifications in order to use law school printers and take computer exams. Specifications for individual computers can be downloaded here. Additionally, students who opt out of the program will receive a $500 credit on their student account the first semester of law school. IT staff must verify that your computer meets at all of the specifications. Please note that the Law School IT department offers limited technical assistance for non-law school issued computers. For questions and additional information, contact Chris Osier at osier_cm@law.mercer.edu.

Although the exact specifications change from year to year, the following is representative of a typical student laptop:

  • Widescreen LCD Panel
  • 4GB Memory Minimum
