Innovative Teaching
Thanks to a significant financial endowment,
at Mercer School of Law we are able to keep the number of students
low and the number of professors high. This ensures that students
receive the most individualized experience possible. However, it
is only part of the equation. At the same time, we bring in the
most respected legal scholars and practitioners from across the
country who approach every day as an opportunity to develop new
and innovative ways to teach their students.
A Solid Foundation
Your professors will provide you with a solid theoretical foundation
through traditional subject areas. The difference is that they find
a broad spectrum of forums from which to pass along this information—in
the classroom, through listservs, in their offices, and even in
their homes.
Embracing Technology
Mercer provides wired classrooms, and professors incorporate technology
into the learning process. This comes in the form of multi-media
presentations, online instruction, the use of virtual
classrooms, participation in online study groups, and the formation
of new listserv groups.
Externships and Field Placements
Many students work alongside their professors in capacities that
extend beyond student/teacher, and instead reaches to a collegial
level. These relationships form through externships,
clerkships, and judicial field placement, just to name a few.
Student Groups
Even though our classes are as small as you’re likely to find,
our professors look to personalize the education here even further
by conducting much of their course work through small groups. These
are especially effective when covering such areas as legal
writing and legal
research.
