Governor Deal Names Mercer Law Alumnus Deron Hicks As State Inspector General
On January 11, 2011, Mercer Law alumnus Deron Hicks (J.D., cum laude, 1993) became the Inspector General for the State of Georgia. Hicks will direct the Office of Inspector General which is responsible for investigating allegations of fraud, corruption and misconduct in the Executive Branch of state government.Mercer Law Student Rhonda Sadler Wins Samsung-Stanford Patent Prize
Rhonda Sadler, 3L, has been named a winner of a Samsung-Stanford Patent Prize for her paper entitled, “The Role of Jury Instructions in Patent Remedy Gatekeeping.” She will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and she will present her paper at a conference discussing patent remedies on Friday, February 18th, 2011 at the Stanford University School of Law. The Samsung-Stanford writing competition was created to encourage research regarding patent remedies. Prizes were awarded to students, academics, lawyers and other professionals. Mercer Distinguished Alumnus and former trustee Nathan Deal was inaugurated as Georgia’s 82nd governor during a 2 p.m. ceremony at the State Capitol in Atlanta on Monday. He becomes the 11th Mercer alumnus to hold that office. Seven Mercerians have led the State of Georgia, and four others have served as governors of the states of Alabama, Texas, New Hampshire and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.Mercer Law student captures top honor in annual closing-argument competition
ATLANTA - Mercer Law student Louise Smith finished first in the recent 2010 Keenan’s Kids Foundation’s annual Law Student Closing Argument Competition. Last year, another Mercer Law student, Michael Lyles II ’10, captured first place. The Keenan’s Kids Foundation was established in 1993 by the Keenan Law Firm to raise awareness about child safety. MACON - Mercer Law School held the nation's first moot court competition in legal ethics and professionalism this past weekend, and Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Fla., was crowned its 2010 winner. The second-place winner was Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Va., and a member of Florida Coastal School of Law captured best oralist.Mercer University Walter F.
